Japanese Imports | Type 1 | EV Charger

🎌 The Type 1 Tradition

In Japan (and North America), the standard AC charging port for many EVs is the Type 1 connector (also known as J1772). It's a robust, five-pin plug that works perfectly fine... on its home turf.

🇪🇺 Europe's Type 2 Takeover

Here in Europe, the landscape is different. The Type 2 (or Mennekes) connector is the mandated standard for public AC charging. It has seven pins, supports single and three-phase power for faster charging (up to 22kW at many public points), and even includes a handy locking mechanism.

Japanese Import = Type 1 EV charger

Your Japanese import, designed for its home market, likely has that Type 1 socket. When faced with a European Type 2 charge point, you've got a compatibility issue! The two plugs simply don't fit.

The Fix? An Adapter Cable!

Don't panic! The solution is simple and essential: a Type 2 to Type 1 charging cable or adapter. This converts the European standard Type 2 plug from the charging station into the Type 1 connection your car needs.

Bottom line: If you're driving a Japanese Import, EVcableco.ie have multiple options from Type 1 cables to adapters.
